At Calvary Preschool we use developmentally appropriate
practices in guiding children to learn and succeed
in a social setting. In order to provide this, we
recognize that children learn by doing and
through active engagement. We believe play has
intent and purpose and is one of our primary
teaching strategies.
Our goals for emotional, social, cognitive, physical,
and spiritual growth of each child are as
follows:
Development of a positive self concept
through the support of individual strengths
Understanding and acceptance of self and
others
Ability to develop friendships with other children
and positive relationships with adults
Cooperative group behavior
Increased independence, critical thinking
skills, and creative problem solving abilities
Health and safety issues
Coordination of both large and small motor
skills
Ability to express ideas through art, music,
and language
Development of Christian living habits,
such as sharing, respect for others and
their property, awareness of right and
wrong, and an appreciation of individual
differences
Development of appropriate skills in the
area of:
- Letter & number concepts
- Color & shape recognition
- Experiences with art materials
- Listening and following instructions
- Music appreciation
- Printing skills
